Line is open to anyone in a threatening or abusive environment and who are not in immediate physical danger. Operates a restraining order clinic and a food pantry for needy families. Provides temporary shelter for homeless families in a safe, supportive environment including a shelter for single fathers with kids.

Provides psychological treatments to individuals, children and adolescents, parents and caregivers, couples as well as counseling in a group setting. Offers a wide range of assessments including, attention/concentration problems, child/adolescent behavioral, emotional and school problems, cognitive and neuropsychological assessment, learning disabilities and personality assessments.

Recruits and provides foster family certification to enable families to be eligible to provide a crisis home for youth needing a safe environment for youths, ages 0 to 17, who are experiencing crisis while NCFC counselors work with the youth and family to reunite them, or develop mutually agreed upon alternatives. Also provides Long-term Foster care for children referred by Social Services in Contra Costa, Alameda, and Solano counties. To be eligible, family must possess the ability to relate effectively to and adequately supervise youth, have space to temporarily house one or more young people, possess the ability to be certified by the NCFC as a Foster Family, and pass child abuse and criminal background checks.

Provides free, confidential, one-on-one basic instruction in reading, writing, and spelling to adults who can converse in English. Instruction is provided by trained volunteers. Adult learner/tutor pairs meet twice a week, for an hour and a half each time at libraries or other public locations throughout Contra Costa County.

Records and loans educational tapes for readers with visual disabilities or physical or learning disabilities that make it difficult to read books. The library carries over 65,000 recordings, ranging from fourth grade through post-graduate and professional texts, also classics and other books. Clients can also provide their own books to be taped by volunteers. Complex materials, such as law and medical books or computer manuals, require specialized readers and a significant amount of time. Provides downloadable AudioPlus books for over 65,000 books.

Offers a variety of activities/sports for children, teens and adults. Classes include, basketball, splashball, and skateboarding. Classes may fill up fast or may be cancelled depending on registration.
