Supports child care programs by facilitating and increasing access to care. Family recertifications and eligibility will continue. Provides free services related to child care to parents/guardians and child care professionals in Central Contra Costa County. Services include assistance with finding and selecting child care and family resources, guidance and support applying for subsidized child care, technical assistance to child care professionals, child care needs assessment upon request, and parent education opportunities.

Provides empowerment to black fathers by providing 12 sessions of evidence based curriculum in a group or one-on-one setting. Sessions focus on fatherhood skills, parenting/relationship skills, self-awareness, and self care.

Provides temporary financial assistance, counseling, supportive services, employment training, education and career services to Native American families in Contra Costa County that belong to a federally recognized tribe.

Works to improve and expand services to people with developmental disabilities and their families. Offers Mind, Body, and Soul support group to East African American individuals. Host four support groups that meet twice a month on a rotating basis, to follow social distancing. Community health advocates help individuals with health, mental health, and basic needs navigation and assistance.

Administers the Housing Choice Voucher/Section 8 program. The Housing Choice Voucher program is currently closed to new entries. Public housing is handled by the Housing Authority Oakley, Pittsburg, North Richmond or Rodeo offices. The Central Wait List handles the public housing wait list and Section 8 housing wait list.

Offers home based program for parents or grandparents of young children who have difficulty or pain doing baby care. Occupational therapist work with caregivers who have pain, fatigue, visual disabilities and any physical disability, assessing the needs and provides baby care equipment and techniques to make baby care easier. Educates and provides presentations to hospitals or agencies interested in learning about this program.

Provides 15 to 20 pounds of fresh produce two times per month to qualifying households that are in need of food assistance. Produce is distributed from the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano Mobile Trucks.

Offers English classes for adults Sept.-Nov. twice per week.

Provides supplemental food benefits using a WIC card. Offers nutrition and breastfeeding support and education, and referrals to other health and community services. Offers a mobile-friendly application and website at m.wic.ca.gov for clients to find a WIC local agency and WIC grocers.

Offers a variety of dance classes for children, teens and adults. Classes include, classical and contemporary dance, social dance, and world dance. Classes may fill up fast or may be cancelled depending on registration.

Provides legal services via remote advocacy related to housing issues include: public, subsidized (including Section 8 and other HUD subsidized projects) and private housing, fair housing and housing discrimination, housing conditions, rent control, eviction defense, lock-outs and utility shutoffs, residential hotels. Bay Area Legal Aid does not handle criminal matters.

Offers sliding scale mediation services to help individuals find mutually fair and lasting solutions to conflict and disputes between neighbors, landlords and tenants, merchants, consumers, employees and employers in Contra Costa. It is an informal service that will not result in court or police records. Panel hearings are normally held within 14 days from time of request, with sessions scheduled at the convenience of participants. Mediators are trained volunteer community members.

Offers home visiting services for prenatal and postpartum families in Contra Costa County. Services include information about pregnancy, infant care, safety, monthly socializations, helping to navigate the medical system and community resources that may be of interest. Special focus on helping parents to understand child development over the first two years of child's life through a structured, home-based curriculum.

Provides shelter and counseling for battered women and their children. Counseling for survivors of sexual assault, molestation, and domestic abuse is also provided at the Community Building. Answers a 24-hour crisis phone line for domestic violence survivors, victims of sexual assault or molestation. Line is open to anyone in a threatening or abusive environment and who are not in immediate physical danger. Operates a restraining order clinic and a food pantry for needy families. Provides temporary shelter for homeless families in a safe, supportive environment including a shelter for single fathers with kids.
